This department is doing that right now.
With ten handheld devices currently in use - and many more on the way - the citation business in Bossier City is booming. Where the typical officer might issue 15-20 citations in a month (yes, it's peaceful in Bossier, just the way folks like it), that same officer is now writing 40-45, and picking up speed each month. (The plan calls for 98 units to be in use shortly, as officers with a more traditional outlook see their compatriots wielding new handhelds, running up impressive totals and want some of that action for themselves.) The municipality expected E-Citation to pay for itself, just not this quickly!
"First of all, it's WAY faster. You can get the ticket issued and not have to stay on the street like you used to. So, naturally, the officers love it. In the Traffic Unit, they're using E-Citation together with Street Smart, so they can view and verify information found on a person much more quickly. My guys are go-getters, and that's just what they're doing."
